You must always set high expectations and convey clear performance requirements for working within your exhibit booth. You should have a written policy that addresses your after hour guidelines. When you have your pre-show meeting, mention these policies once again in a group forum. State clearly that any appearance of being unprofessional, late arrivals to the show, early departures at day’s end, or worst of all being impaired the morning after on the show floor will not be tolerated. These are all grounds for being sent home at their own expense with further disciplinary measures to come.

If you have an especially rowdy partying group, or you are in Las Vegas, or New Orleans you might consider assigning your staffers to dinners, or customer events to keep everyone in check. Work with your people – people who are tardy as an example. Give those people late arrival shifts and they ends the fight before it begins. Another concept is the best booth staffer award. This is not the best sales – this is best overall cheerleader, problem solver, incredible performance. Make the prize something with value that everyone wants to win – an iPad, a weekend vacation, or just an extra two days off – it’s amazing how far this can take you in creating the perfect booth staff!
