San Diego Comic-Con 2016 came to a close this past weekend and toy/collectible manufacturer, Quantum Mechanix, ended their weekend with a considerable amount of buzz for the upcoming Fall & Winter lineup and a new personal sales record at the show.

The 5-day event encompassed all things geeky, nerdy, and pop culture related and is a popular destination for many industry professionals to debut projects currently in the works.

This year’s Comic-Con saw the reveal of several highly anticipated trailers from movies like Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, as well as Warner Bros.’ Justice League and Suicide Squad, which releases later next week. Building off of this excitement, Quantum Mechanix took the opportunity to unveil several figures featuring newly obtained licenses from Marvel & DC Comics, including a Harley Quinn tie-in straight from Suicide Squad.

Quantum Mechanix also debuted several prototype screen-accurate models of ships from popular movies like Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. Both garnered enormous attention and were featured on Gawker’s Gizmodo tech blog and Mythbusters’ Adam Savage’s YouTube channel (see below).

Amazing, right? Now about that exhibit …

Concept and Design:

As a ten-year veteran at Comic-Con, Quantum Mechanix wished to have a bigger impact and presence at this year’s show.

Absolute Exhibits had previously worked with Quantum Mechanix earlier in the year at Toy Fair (New York City, NY) and WonderCon (Los Angeles, CA) so they were already very comfortable with their Account Executive, Michael Pino, and the rest of the team.

Going into the design process, Quantum Mechanix highlighted several key features that would be important for their booth. They required an exhibit that could function as a retail space for their consumers but also have meeting space where they could meet with studio executives and other retail partners.

Armed with this knowledge, Michael Pino offered expert counsel and carried the project through the entire design process.

“[Michael] and I had an initial conversation where I said ‘these are the goals for the booth’ and because we had worked so well together at Toy Fair and WonderCon earlier this year, he was able to take that vision and make this booth, which turned out to be exactly what we were looking for.”

-Shannon Foster, COO of Quantum Mechanix

Michael opted to go with a double deck design to maximize utility of the booth space and elevate the Quantum Mechanix brand name – figuratively and literally! By adding the second floor to the booth, Quantum Mechanix was able to truly utilize the entire ground floor for their retail presence and maintain a comfortable, private meeting area away from the crowds.

Results:

Quantum Mechanix achieved record sales within the first two days of the show alone. Shannon and the team were ecstatic with the booth and their results from the show.

“The entire booth has exceeded my expectations and I couldn’t be happier,” commented Shannon during Michael’s follow-up visit. “I think the double deck has really given us a great opportunity to have an impact with our studio partners and executives and elevated our status and persona.”

Customers and fans expressed their adoration and praise for the booth across social media. The booth also gained celebrity status when Star Trek’s own William Shatner stopped by for a personal visit.
